lyrics

(written by Grant Newsome)

We are astray from the path of righteousness.
Not religiously for this is not a sermon,
These are simply words and
I speak them for my children’s children.
Soon to be addicted to cinematic killing.
You see, peace has become un-cool
like backwards caps and fanny packs.
So we inject gun talk into the veins of our manly raps.
Hoping that those listening can confirm our masculinity.
The limit of which we stretch to infinity.
Yet, in this world of great consequence,
Peace is the foundation, on which we stand.

I remember Mama hollering cause I had to get my grades up.
That was her way of assuring her baby won’t get sprayed up.
Layed up, faded out and forgotten.
6 feet deep and soon to be rotten.
She tried to pass this off to me like Stockton,
But as a child, we can only get bored like Rodman.
And that’s why Compton is Compton.
For with no appreciation for life all you find is death.
As smoke rises from concrete killing fields,
You pause to find your breath.
Yet the only thing on your mind is how much time is left.
No wonder why the hood is under all this grind and stress.
No wonder why Afghanistan shakes with the sound of flying jets.
My lungs burn white from the fumes of the napalm I injest.
I protest.
For this path is guaranteed to lead to fast destruction.
So with the mic we are weapons of mass construction.
We are history through hip-hop.
